The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam is a highly competitive exam conducted in India for recruitment to various government services. The exam consists of three stages - Preliminary, Main, and Interview. Here is the detailed syllabus for each stage of the exam:
Preliminary Exam:
The Preliminary Exam consists of two objective type papers:
Paper I - General Studies:
Current events of national and international importance
History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the world
Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy,Rights Issues, etc.
Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change - General issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change - that do not require subject specialization.
General Science
Paper II - CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test):
Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision making and problem-solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level)
Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. - Class X level)

Main Exam:
The Main Exam consists of nine descriptive type papers:
Paper I - Essay:
Candidates may be required to write essays on multiple topics. They will be expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in an orderly fashion, and to write concisely.
Paper II - General Studies I:
Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society

Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations

Paper VI and VII - Optional Subject Paper I and II:
Candidates can choose any one optional subject from the list of subjects provided by the UPSC.
Paper VIII and IX - Indian Language and English:
Candidates have to choose one Indian language from the list of Indian languages provided by the UPSC. The paper on English is designed to test the candidates' ability to read and understand serious discursive prose, and to express their ideas clearly and correctly.
Interview:
The interview or personality test is intended to evaluate the candidate's overall personality, including their intellectual, social, and moral qualities, as well as theirlevel of interest in current affairs.
